SUBJECT: Cerebrovascular Disease (Stroke)

EVALUATION:

Tansient Ischemic Attack/Minor Stroke (minor stroke) — inadequate blood supply to a portion of the brain.:

Requires neurological examination, usually symptoms decline to under 5% within

a year.

Minimum driving restriction- 1 year.

If medications cause potential depressing eflects-not qualified to drive a bus.

Embolic or Thrombotic Cerebral Infarction (moderate to major stroke-most common) -inadequate blood distribution by one or more blood vessels to the brain.

Neurological examination determines the neurological residuals. Minimum driving restrietion-1 year to permanent disqualification.

Intracerebral or Subarachnoid Hemorrhage (most serious) — bleeding in or around the brain.

Approximately 20% of patients, a cause will not be determined. Extensive evaluations required. Disqualified to drive CDL vehicles.
